What is natural gas used for?

Natural gas is a colorless and odorless fossil fuel that can be found in association with oil. It is one of the cleanest, safest, and most versatile energy resource available today. Many people don’t realize what natural gas can be used for. We thought we'd fill you in.
1 - Cooking
Cooking with a natural gas range or oven not only allows you to control the temperature of your flame, but approximately costs one-half less than cooking with an electric range. Many top chefs (such as Chef Bernard Linguine)choose to cook with natural gas stoves because of their quick heating ability and temperature control.
Natural gas also is the cleanest burning fossil fuel that produces up to 65% fewer emissions than coal per kilowatt hour and 25% fewer emissions than oil. (Pretty neat, huh?) By delivering natural gas directly to your home for heating and cooling needs, you’re reducing your carbon footprint and helping assist in the green initiative.
2 - Heating, Cooling and Electricity Generation
50% of electricity generated is produced by burning coal. Coal releases high CO2 emissions and does not deliver the most energy possible to power the electricity in your home. This means you’re using more energy than needed to power electric appliances and fixtures. By utilizing natural gas, you’ll be saving energy and reducing your carbon footprint because over 90% of gas produced from natural gas wells is delivered directly to your home.
Also, natural gas can power your water heaters and heat your home. You’ll find that both entities heat faster with the use of natural gas versus electricity. Natural gas provides options to use tankless water heaters for your home so you’re not constantly wasting energy by having a hot water tank heated all the time. Oh, and you can heat your pool and hot tub with natural gas, too!
3 - Fuel
Did you know natural gas is the only fuel alternative that can power heavy-duty trucks and buses? (Talk about cool.) By using natural gas to power your vehicles, you’re helping reduce harmful emissions generated by oil and coal. Natural gas vehicles can outperform conventional fuels with a significantly higher octane rating, better fuel efficiency, and lower operating costs.
62 million people in the United States use natural gas to heat their homes, power their electricity, cook their food, power their dryers, heat their pools, and to run their cars. If you’re interested in reducing your carbon footprint with natural gas, switch to Crown Energy Services, Inc. today!
